Raleigh, North Carolina Hits Fast Company’s List of Top 30 Fast Cities

FastCompany_RaleighFastCityThere are lots of people relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina and one thing that helps focus attention on us is the large number of national publications that put Raleigh on (usually very near the top) various lists of best places to live, work, run a business, etc.

Well, it’s happened again.  This time Fast Company magazine has placed Raleigh on their list of Top 30 Fast Cities and we are ranked as the number 3 R&D cluster in the world!  Not too bad, huh?

The profile they created for Raleigh states that we have the highest percentage of college graduates anywhere in the US between the ages of 25 and 34.  With institutes of higher learning such as Duke University, University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State all located within 30 miles of each other, this statistic should not come as a major surprise.

The profile mentions Red Hat and SAS Institute as two local top Fast Companies.  I’m surprised that Cisco, IBM, Sony Ericsson, or one of the biotech companies didn’t make the list of local Fast Companies.  Maybe they had to pick just the top two?

The profile went on to mention that we have been doing high-tech right for quite a while.  They cited our long range planning (Research Triangle Park), a great business climate, high quality of life and steady stream of the brightest and the best coming from our three major universities as reasons for Raleigh’s success.

It’s articles like this that bring a great many people here looking for homes in Raleigh and surrounding areas such as Cary, Morrisville, Apex and Wake Forest.  If you’re looking to relocate to Raleigh to be in a climate of fast business growth and high quality of life, give me a call at 919-602-7000, or send me an email and I’ll be glad to help you put together a plan to make it happen.

Heritage Wake Forest

HeritageMarqueSmallDo you want a custom built Wake Forest home in a beautiful golf course community with schools, shopping and restaurants right down the street?  Then Heritage Wake Forest is for you!

Heritage is a well thought out planned development which offers a wide variety of architectural styles and floor plans sure to please just about any taste and budget.  Prices range from townhomes in the $170s to custom estate homes priced up to the $900s with breathtaking views of the golf course.

This neighborhood has been carefully planned and integrated with the surrounding area.  One of the biggest complaints I get from home buyers regarding new construction is how developers tend to cut down all the trees leaving the neighborhood barren and without character.  This is not the case at Heritage.  In the late 1980s the developers actually began planting more than $1 million in trees over a four year period with a clear vision for how the community would look today.

HeritageStreetscape001The list of custom builders in Heritage includes the best of the best with names like Creech, Robuck, Dickerson, Legacy, Tingen, Gaylord, Grady, Clearwater and others.  These builders are active members of the local community with reputations to maintain and uphold.  They each have a vested interest in satisfying each and every customer by delivering what they promise.

GolfCourse001The active lifestyle is alive and well at Heritage.  The centerpiece is the award winning Heritage Golf Club which features beautiful landscaping, meandering creeks and natural, spring fed lakes.  There is also a putting practice green, pro shop and a full service grill.

The Heritage Swim & Tennis Club offers a junior olympic sized pool, a waterslide and lighted tennis courts.  The clubhouse gives members a banquet room and meeting facilities.

Just a mile or two away the Smith Creek Soccer Center and The Factory Sports Complex offer plenty of year round options for your family, including two ice rinks, go-karts, batting cages, dance school, YMCA, martial arts, pottery painting, skateboard park, and a complex of six baseball fields operated by Capital City Baseball.  By the way, there are some great restaurants there too!

Check back often for updates on this great neighborhood.  In the mean time, if you would like more information, just give me a call or fill out the information request form and I’ll get your questions answered as quickly as possible.

New NC 540 Connects Apex Homes to RTP

NC540_BWFor years people living in homes in Apex, North Carolina and working in Research Triangle Park (RTP) were faced with driving two lane roads and waiting at congested traffic lights to get to work every day.  As of this past Saturday, that has all changed.

The $102 million, 4.5 mile stretch of the road formally known as I-540 finally opened to commuters.  I say formally known as I-540 because although that’s what it started out as, it has been conveniently re-named NC 540 by the North Carolina Turnpike Authority with the hopes of turning the section between NC 54 and NC 55 into a toll road.  That’s another story, but feel free to bombard them with letters, phone calls and emails letting them know what a really bad idea that is.

Okay, back to the good news.  Folks living in homes in Apex can now access the new road at NC 55 and go non-stop to either NC 54, Davis Drive or I-40.  This should take a lot of pressure off of NC 55 and associated two lane roads used to cut across to RTP.  And since NC 55 from Apex to Cary was widened to four lanes a few years ago, things should flow much nicer in this western part of Wake County.

The biggest improvement, however, might be at the eastern end of the new road where it connects to I-40.  Commuters from homes in North Raleigh and Wake Forest previously had to exit I-540 and merge on to I-40 because it ended there.  The bottleneck created by going from 4 lanes to 1 has been the source of frustration for commuters to RTP for years.

With I-540 continuing westward as NC 540 and adding three exits to access RTP, this area of congestion should hopefully go away now.  Today will be the real test for the new road and its ability to ease congestion in both areas.
